BASIC RULES OF WEB DESIGN
Rule 1: Good page load speed
It would seem, what does web design have to do with it? Let us explain. Many experts are so fond of graphic experiments that they do not pay attention to the download speed. And it, if you stuff the site with widgets, animation and video, will inevitably fall. If the site will be loaded slowly – not every visitor has the patience to wait, half will simply leave your resource without having had time to look at anything. On the other hand, there are no graphic effects either.
Rule 2. Usability, or usability of the site
Your site can be modern and beautiful, but what good is it if it is hopelessly, desperately inconvenient? Usability refers to the convenience of the resource for the visitor. For example, he goes to the main page and sees a brief description: yes, it is an online store of sports goods, everything is clear.
Rule 3. Readable fonts
The epoch, when the more shrouded fonts were, the cooler it was considered. It happened that the letters were so intricate that the words were simply not read. And the standard fonts were overlaid with effects and colors. Now the trends have changed: the simpler the fonts, the better. Look at how the sites of large companies and online stores: they use large readable fonts, which will parse even a baby. Another rule: the page should have no more than 2-3 different fonts.
Rule 4. Moderate color palette
There is also a rule: no more than 3 colors per page. Shades and halftones are allowed, but no more. Black, red, yellow and green – this is too much: pity the poor visitor. Behind a riot of colors, he just will not notice useful information or will sneak through your traffic lights with a magnifying glass in his hands. And again we will advise the corporate style: in addition to the fonts, you will also find corporate colors, which in the future you will use for any promotional materials.
Rule 5. Modern background
Another hi from the nineties: a complex background, or substrate, for the site. Still used among novice web-designers, on budget sites of second- and third-level domains, very actively – in. It is naive to think that if you sell jewelry – the background should go gold placers, if products – pile of food. All this is too obvious and banal. No, the pictures in the subject are always relevant, but it is better to choose something unusual, unbeaten for the background.
Rule 6. Uniform style
The fonts are strict, the colors are funny, and the pictures are pulled from different drains on the principle “let it be, but more”? One order form is horizontal, another – vertical, and in each different fonts? Wait, this is not how it works: the selling design assumes unity of style. As the classic said, “in one cart can not put a horse and a trembling doe!

Rule 7. Golden cross-section
It is an alpha and omega of any design – the rule of golden section gives perfect proportions, the design looks harmonious and natural. The same applies to typography: the text columns, the size of the title in relation to the font of the main text, the size of the advertising banner and the text under it, and so on. The gold spiral can be either vertical or horizontal.
Rule 8. Knowledge of the effect of “banner blindness”
You must have heard about this concept. People are so used to the abundance of advertising that banners and other advertising blocks simply ignore – they immediately look for relevant information. Let’s say, if a visitor goes to the page of the product card, he will immediately find with his eyes the most important thing – price, photo, description. Even if this information appears in a dense ring of advertising, it will not be noticed or dismissed as an annoying fly.
Rule 9. More visualization!
If the site has so much information, make life easier for users: where you can apply icons or animation – apply. For example, already widely used buttons of social networks, basket for folding goods, the icon of the magnifier – to search, and so on.
Rule 10: Adaptive layout
One last thing: a web designer must be able to make adaptive layout. Not just the mobile version, but the adaptive version, which displays equally well from all devices. More and more people visit sites from smartphones and laptops – it is important that the site is well loaded and read. You should also note that the same resource may display differently even on different browsers.
